Don puts on his bathing costume, hops in the DeLorean DMC-12 and surprises the listeners of the Dance Megamix with a jackin’ pre-recorded set from the future… (or is it the past?)… to enjoy while he is at the beach. The first half hour begins with all things tropical, as Don whisks you away to a place of blue coral waters and Spanish-Portuguese-Dutch Creole. Things get a bit funkier and blousier, then they start freestylin’, and finally get straight up jackin’ Chicago style. And to close it out, Don drops some Afro-Caribbean jamz. Bon bini from the ABC!

‘Eclectica’ is the new genre of dance music that Don Play is inventing right before your very eyes. Raised in the age of ‘Electronica,’ which had its own cultural merits, Don’s ‘Eclectica’ takes a more freewheeling approach to genres and historical precedents. Take a historic ‘Deetour’ through disco, boogie, garage, Italo, French touch, Chicago jackin’, Detroit techno, and deep house. Editorial note: for some reason the digital recorder in studio stopped recording for about 2 minutes. Luckily I noticed it pretty quickly and got it fired up again — so there’s a quick edit in the podcast version during FPI Project that did not appear on the live broadcast. Enjoy!
